It Starts

Hey Guys this is me, Ellie. I'm pretty sure I'm not what you imagined when you first came to this blog. I am short, round and middle aged but at least it's not as bad as it will be in twenty years. Well, if I learn anything about this journey hopefully twenty years will be a lot better.

Let me start from the beginning, well not quit the beginning. If I went back that far it would be a long boring story that you would most likely have surfed away and now reading a different blog that is not quite so dull and unnecessarily long. Soooo anyway, about 10 years ago I was camping on one of those rare camping trips that my now ex husband joined us on (you may wonder why I mentioned him but it will come clear soon) and I saw a family with their kayaks get in the lake and paddle away. I thought to myself that that was so very cool and I wanted to do it also so I did what I always did when I discovered something I wanted to, nothing, I did nothing. I dreamed, planned and yearned but yet I did nothing about it. Fast forward about 4 years and I am going to Maui for a vacation with once again my now ex-husband. I am faced with planning the itinerary and low and behold I come across a kayaking and snorkeling trip that I couldn't pass up, I mean it was for beginners and due to the fact that my only kayaking experience was watching another family kayak I figured this would be the best way to get my feet wet with kayaking in both the literal and figurative sense. So the day arrives and we head out early to join the kayaking guide and we notice the kayaks are a two person kayak. The guide was wonderful but he did point out that two person kayaks are often call divorce boats as they can cause quite a bit of arguments. Never were more prophetic words spoken as two months later we were getting divorced (this was my point about mentioning him earlier and the last time ever). But I digress, the trip was amazing, we kayaked out into the ocean in Hawaii and I was hooked. The freedom to go into the great wide open waters and experience the joy of kayaking changed me forever.

Fast forward six years. The joy I felt was followed with a total of zero times going out on the water. I mean why would I go out when it was one of my great loves. Turns out working and being a single mother does not leave much time for enjoying the feeling of gliding through the water.

Then one day in 2016 about a year into my new relationship with my current partner, lets call him Mr Wonderful or Amazing Mr Joe as I have so eloquently named him in my phone, my dreams came true when he suggested we go and get me a kayak. Finally I would be able to explore the world on the water, well at least a few lakes as I do not live any where near the ocean. And here is where my story begins.
